The Leo Project

WHO IS THE LEO PROJECT?

The Leo Project is a community-based organization committed to driving social change through healthcare and education programs. It believes that equitable access to education and healthcare are universal human rights. Its education programs promote holistic learning experiences for communities. The Leo Project has formed partnerships with 10 local primary and secondary schools in Laikipia County where it delivers daily programming in digital literacy, sexual and reproductive health, life skills, climate and health, mental wellness, and creative arts.

WHAT DID THE MCW GRANT SUPPORT?

The Leo Project promoted climate change awareness by conducting two Youth Climate Change and Adaptation training sessions. Engaging 52 youths, the sessions covered a spectrum of topics, empowering the participants with knowledge on climate change basics, policy understanding, advocacy skills, and environmental commitment. Additionally, The Leo Project successfully established a tree nursery at Muramati Primary School, symbolizing a commitment to hands-on environmental education for 25 students. The nursery, which currently holds 2500 seedlings, will be cared for and managed by the conservation club students with guidance from the Leo Project team. The seedlings in the nursery will be sold and others given to the community and the nursery will procure new seedlings ensuring the sustainability of this initiative.
